Team Bacchetta Member Bio - Allan Duhm

Name: Allan Duhm
Sex: Male
Age:
60
Location:
Lakeland, FL

Riding Background:
Riding since 1987. About 2-3K per year for 10 years, ramped up to between 5K and 9K per year the last 8 years, all road miles.

How did you get into Recumbents?  Neck pain and surgery forced me off the DF bikes. Recumbents literally saved my riding.  Bought JS's used Ti-Aero about 2 years ago and haven't looked back.

What Bacchetta do you ride? Ti-Aero Large.  HED tri-spokes.

2009 Race results:

Calvin's Challenge - 2nd, 50-59 class (218 miles).  http://www.calvinschallenge.com/

Sebring RAAM Qualifier - 284 miles (RAAM Qualified). http://www.bikesebring.org/

UMCA Cross State (Florida) EW, 60+, recumbent record 25.5 hours.

Little River 12/24 (not my best ride - dressed poorly for the cold, trained poorly for the hills).

Personal Best Rides: The three rides mentioned above are my top accomplishments so far on my bent.  (I've done 10 Mt. MItchells, 7 cross Floridas on the old DF bike, but we don't really care about that here I don't think.)  I plan to break all three of the above records, although am unable to attend Calvin's this year.  I completed 44 century rides or longer in 2009.  Best ride lately.....trading the lead dog position on the Sunday morning (yesterday) hammer-heads ride and challenging the two 30 something DF riders that were working together, at 38mph.   What a rush.  Never would have happened without my "B".

Events planned to attend for the rest of 2010:

I'll be crew chief for a Bacchetta rider (Dan Falon) at RAW in a few weeks.

I "hope" to do the National 24 hour in Michigan   http://www.n24hc.org/

I'm planning to set a new W-E Cross Florida record in the fall.

The Little River 24 HR is another one I'd very much like to revisit.

I also hope to do a self-designed "Super Rails-Trails" ride in Florida to include the Ft. Fraser (Bartow to Lakeland) / Van Fleet (Auburndale to HWY 50 near Clermont) / Withlacoochee (HWY 50 up to the north end) / and Suncoast (Brooksville area to Land-O-Lakes), then back to Lakeland.  It would originate in Bartow Florida and end up back in Lakeland at an estimated 250 miles.
